Ever been miles from home and yet everything looks strangely familiar? Well, one place you can recreate that home from home feeling lies only an hours drive from Sydneys
CBD
along the beautiful northern coastline in
Palm
beach. Not just another stunning golden sanded, jetty-filled, restaurant-loaded peninsula but inhabited by over a million people every day. A million. Every day. AND without disturbing the natural flora and fauna, never mind competing for some great waves. Okay, we are talking Home and Away here, and virtual inhabitants but it does not take from the sheer beauty of the place. Hence the unspoilt sandy beaches and relatively quiet seaside town atmosphere.
Hop on a bus, train or take a hire car just 40 kilometres north of Sydneys
CBD
and there you are. Regular cheap transport at your fingertips delivers you right to the beachfront, literally metres away so you can leave all that city stress behind, unwind and taste the salty air. But shhhh, let us keep it to ourselves.
Bounded by Broken Bay to the north, the Tasman Sea to the east, the headland rises quite sharply from the beach to an operational lighthouse with provide some great views.
Originally inhabited by Aboriginals over half of whom were wiped out by smallpox at one point until Captain Cook arrived and gave the area the name of Broken Bay (the replica Endeavour is a treasure to visit in Sydney harbour).
And if you are fond of some old sea tales check out Smugglers Track, the subject of much rum, brandy and tobacco smuggling. Todays treasure lies closer to the virtual kind in the form of the exploits of the inhabitants of Summer Bay. And we just cant get enough of them can we?
And for you non soapies, there is plenty to keep you busy with golf, sailing, surf and plenty of tasty fishy dishes in the local eateries afterwards to replenish that lost energy. Just in time to curl up with us telly heads in your
Weekend Breaks or
Midweek Breaks hotel.
Before you set out make sure you are well rested in some of our great hotels such as
